College of Applied Health Sciences
Welcome parents and congratulations on your son or daughter's acceptance into the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The next few months will be an exciting time for you and your student. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Applied Health Sciences community and share some insight about what will transpire in preparation for your student's arrival on campus.
The First Step
Your student's next step will be to complete the online college homework later this spring through the IStart website. This homework is an important piece of the registration process and will prepare your student for on campus registration in the summer! While completing this homework, students will have the opportunity to identify courses of interest, provide information about AP and community college coursework, and to learn more about their prospective schedules for Fall. All students must have this homework completed 2 weeks prior to arrival on campus for Registration.
In addition, students who have taken less than 3 years of a single language, other than English, in high school will be required to take a placement exam. We also encourage all students interested in pursuing a minor in a language to complete the placement exam, regardless of how many years your student has taken in high school. All AHS students, regardless of major, will be required to take the chemistry placement exam. Placement scores will be made available to your student's academic adviser prior to registration and are an important component of the process. Please encourage your student to complete the homework and placement exams early!
What Can I Expect from Registration?
Your student's visit to campus this summer will be full of information for your son or daughter and for you! During the day of registration, you and your student will meet together with representatives from the College. The academic advisers will share information about the day, about the College and about registration for classes with you and your student. Your students will then have a chance to meet one on one with their adviser, while parents can continue to learn more about the College, the University of Illinois, and the many programs on campus. All students will register for classes for the Fall 2008 semester after a lunch break. The students will have their advisers with them through the registration process. During this time, numerous campus resources and programs will be available for parents. This is a great time to familiarize yourself with the campus and to learn more about the U of I. You will meet up with your son or daughter after registration for a recap of the day!
Again, welcome—we look forward to meeting you in the very near future. In the meantime, please visit the College of Applied Health Sciences website at www.ahs.uiuc.edu for more information.
